EPOXY REBAR DOWELS AND BOLT TIPS

A Special Inspection by a Deputy Inspector for Epoxy will include the following items to be noted on the Deputy Inspector's Report:
1) -Verification of what diameter drill bit was used. - (Most epoxy requires the use of a drill bit at least 1/8" larger in diameter than the size of the rod that you will be putting in the hole).
Example: If you are using a 1/2" diameter rebar dowel, than you will need a 5/8" diameter drill bit, If you are epoxying a 5/8" diameter bolt, than you need to use a 3/4" diameter drill bit, etc.
2) - Verification that the hole depth matcheswith what is required on the approved plans. The required embedment depth means into actual concrete, not including wood, such as a sill plate when epoxying anchor bolts.
3) - Verification that the hole has been cleaned properly. Concrete dust that is made during the drilling of the hole will keep the epoxy from bonding with the concrete. Using a bottle brush, and also blowing out the hole with compressed air are steps that are required by epoxy manufacturers.
4) - Epoxy type and expiration date will be verified. Occasionally epoxy that has been recently purchased will be expired. Somewhere on the tube of epoxy (front lower section in typed numbers of Simpson epoxy) there will be an expiration date that must be checked.
A Deputy Inspector does not need to be on-site while the holes are being drilled.
Drill the holes prior, follow the above steps and the Special Inspection should be no problem!
